In Heretic this means that you need to aim up to hit flying monsters for example. We spent some time playing all of them, and they run fantastic in Windows with mouse support with all the graphics and sounds you love. Gzdoom defaults to not using this behavior. Chocolate Doom aims to accurately reproduce the original DOS version of Doom, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife in a form that can be run on modern computers. You could also shoot below or above a monster and still hit them. If you're not aware, "actors" (monsters, barrels, etc.) were infinitely tall in Doom engine games so you could not run off a cliff for example if a monster was right below you.
